Recalled To Life

This morning I had my first freestyle lesson with Holly since... October, I think.  The CCIC schedule has changed for the next several weeks so I was able to get in a 7:20 a.m. lesson.  The session was pretty busy (about 15? skaters), ice not so great but okay.

I had about 10 minutes to warm up.

Today's lesson:

  • Stroking -- eep.
  • back crossovers -- these were actually okay, surprisingly.
  • perimeter XOs -- slow.  The forward pattern was kind of okay, but the back was off a bit (and, still slow).
  • spins -- we did a bunch of them.  The last one was actually okay, especially considering it's been so long.
I'm going to have lessons in this time slot through the 3rd week of July.  Yay!  After that the schedule will change again.  Ugh.

F8s

My figures lesson with Danette on the Chandler adult skate.  Nice ice! I warmed up with F edges & scribed circles.

Today's lesson:

  • B edges -- since I didn't warm them up.  Mostly okay, but we worked a little on being more consistent on the BO lobe size L to R foot.
  • FO8 -- some small improvements on posture here.  Working to have a more reasonable circle size that doesn't head for the hinterlands.
  • FI8 -- nicer.  I wish these looked like what they look like in my head though.
  • 3s -- just 4 minutes on these.  Bleah.

Serpentines

My figures lesson with Danette on the Chandler adult skate.  Really nice ice!

I warmed up with forward edges, I was running late so no scribed circles.

Today's lesson:

  • B edges -- not bad.  My BI lobes were wildly inconsistent so we did them over again, and they were better. BO were nice.
  • serpentines -- we had not worked on these in a while so we had  go at it.  Of course my flow is horrible right now so I'm not making it a full 1.5 circles (I usually can't even make 1 full circle right now, ugh).  We worked a bunch on the RFO-LFI and then the LFO-RFI.  The FIO change of edge is relatively okay.  The FOI wasn't as bad as I remembered, but of course still needs lots of work.  Eeep.

3s

My figures lesson with Danette on the Chandler adult skate.  Nice ice (we are back on the east rink) and 6 skaters. I warmed up with forward edges and BO edges, and scribed circles.  I'm in this Monday time slot for a couple of weeks.

Today's lesson:

  • BI edges -- since I didn't get these in the warmup.  They were okay, though my lobe sizes were wildly inconsistent.
  • 3s --We worked these a bunch, on the wall and on the circle. On the positive side my timing is getting better.  On the negative side they are often really skidded or scrapey.  Ugh.
  • waltz-8 -- we finished off with running the actual waltz-8, since we'd not done that in a long time.  Ugh!  I am kind of incapable of holding the exit from the 3 right now.  Geez.

B8s

My lesson with Danette on the Chandler adult skate.  I scribed circles and warmed up with forward edges.

Today's lesson:

  • Back edges -- not bad, really. We did the BO edges twice to try to get the LBO better as the lobes were really large.  It was better.
  • BI8 -- just a few minutes on these.  I fell after the first push as I got over my toes too much.  It was a little weird so we moved on.
  • BO8 -- the RBO was pretty good but I was having trouble getting over my skate on the LBO, so the print went really wide of the scribed circle and then of course I couldn't make it back.
