Moves

My lesson with Holly on the 9 a.m. adult FS at CCIC.  Nice ice and just 3 skaters.

Today's lesson:

  • perimeter XOs -- Holly asked me to put an additional step on my entrance, which kinda weirded me out as far as pattern.  It does give me a bit more speed.  I need to be willing to push harder!  We worked on the forward side and the pattern's a lot better now.  I was going too far to the center on the R foot and so the lobe was too big and it threw me off.  The BXO side is looking pretty good, I think.
  • circle-8 -- just a couple of minutes on these.  Not so great today for some reason.  Usually they have been pretty good here at CCIC.

Edges, BO8

My lesson with Danette on Chandler 8:30 a.m. FS

Today's lesson:

  • edges -- more or less okay.  Posture is def. improving though.
  • BO8 -- urph.  Danette had me try starting the BO8 on the L foot.  OMG.  I am not used to pushing that way and it was really difficult. Still, an interesting exercise.

Edges, 3s & FO8

My figures lesson with Danette on the 8:30 a.m. FS.  About 6 skaters, including the dance couple.  Ice was horrible -- beat up, and, since the humidity is up due to a storm, ice-stalagmites everywhere.  Ugh.  And, dripping from the ceiling too. No fog, though.

Today's lesson:

  • edges -- meh.  FO actually relatively okay except for some weirdness on the LFO at times. The rest were not bad.  I'm generally doing a better job of keeping the free foot close on the back edges, which is an improvement, so yay.
  • 3s -- most of our lesson on these.  They are about as bad as they were with Holly on Friday :-(.
  • FO8 -- just 3 minutes on these.  Between the ice and my other issues, I could not make it around.  We were mostly focused on posture, anyway.

3s

My lesson with Holly on the 9 a.m. adult skate at CCIC.  Beautiful ice and just 4 skaters.

Today's lesson:

  • circle-8 -- just a couple minutes on these.  Pretty good!
  • power-3s -- most of our time.  We just worked them in the pattern.  Still not placing the 3 at the top of the lobe, but we mostly worked on fixing the BXO and getting a real push to the other BI edge after the 3.  Eeep.  As someone reminded me, these are called power-3s and you need to generate power from everything.  Eeep.
After my lesson I worked a bit on the BXOs to BO edges.  Meh.

Moves

My lesson with Holly on the 9 a.m. FS at CCIC.  Nice ice and just 5 (adult!) skaters.  No warmup today, just a bit of stroking as we began.

  • power-3s -- eep.  We just worked them in the pattern.  RFO3s pretty yucky, LFO3s are better.  I did biff it once on the RFO3s... no harm, no foul.  Bleah.
  • 5-step mohawk -- still a bit scratchy, and I still need to work on the BO edge, but the mohawk itself is a bit better.  We worked a bit on making the lobes of the pattern deeper.
  • perimeter stroking -- not bad, actually.

Edges, BO8

My figures lesson with Danette on the 8:30 a.m. FS at Chandler.  Ice was pretty beat up. 8 skaters, including the dance couple.  Ugh. Since I get no warmup here, and mainly because of the dance couple whizzing by, we are probably going to spend a lot of time on posture -- which, frankly, I need.

Today's lesson:

  • edges -- as usually, the LFO has... issues, but got better.  RFO okay.  FI were pretty good.  BO... my posture is actually improving.  Doing a much, much better job of keeping the free foot in front and then hinging it back, while keeping the hip up.  YAY.  BI pretty good too.
  • BO8 -- we worked on these a bunch, including using The Stick. Using the stick and then just Danette guiding me I was somewhat able to transfer our improvements from the BO edges re: posture to this figure. So yay.
