Edges & FO8

My figures lesson with Danette on the 8:30 a.m. FS at Chandler. Fresh ice! (previous sessions were cancelled & there was an ice cut before). 8 skaters. Good to be back on the ice again after 2 weeks off.

Today's lesson:

  • edges -- actually, not bad, really. Good work on the BO edges to keep free foot in front and not let it swing around.  BI were nice to.  FO a little rough but mostly okay.
  • FO8 -- eep. Some really issues holding a good edge, especially on the L side. Some flats and scraping, and not making it around the circle. Also issues with circles too large. Eeep.
After my lesson I worked briefly on FI8.

Edges

My figures lesson with Danette on the 8:30 a.m. FS at Chandler.  Ice was a bit beat up, but only 3 skaters.

Since I had not had a lesson in quite a while, we spent all our time working on edges.  Eeep.  Posture not good! We spent a significant amount of time working on the push for the initial BI edge, as I am still widestepping it.  We worked on bending the knees while on both feet, *then* picking up the soon-to-be-skating foot and really turning it out while pushing onto it, and then holding the free foot in front for a bit.  These used to be better!  They were really small today.  Ugh.  The rest were eventually fine.

Moves

My lesson with Holly on the adult FS at CCIC.  Nice ice and just 2 skaters!  I have been off the ice for a while for life reasons.... and no lesson next week due to hockey.  Urph.

Today's lesson:

  • perimeter XOs -- not my best, but for being off the ice a while, not that bad.  Pattern on the FXOs was pretty good, and nice power on the BXOs.
  • circle-8 -- first try was a little short and wobbly, so we did it again and it was much better. Yay.
  • power-3s -- most of the lesson on these. They did improve.  If I were actually skating a reasonable amount they would probably be okay. Urph.
