8s

My figures lesson with Danette on the Chandler adult skate.  4 skaters and really nice ice!  I scribed circles and warmed up with forward edges.  I hadn't skated in 2 weeks so there were some definite weak spots.

Today's lesson:

  • B edges -- some issues with posture, but I was mostly able to fix them.
  • FO8 -- still not making it all the way around.  Some good corrections on keeping the free hip back in the first part of the circle -- if it creeps around on me I tend to go flat as the blade turns slightly into the circle.  Ugh.  I did manage to actually lean into the circle a bit more, so yay.
  • FI8 -- not bad, considering.
  • BO8 -- of course, not making it around the circle.  Struggling to Do All the Things at the same time -- free shoulder back, hold the free foot in front, free hip up, look in the circle.  Eeep.  Also Danette said I'm tending to be on an inside edge when I start the new circle, so I need to be sure to push onto a legitimate BO edge.
  • BI8 -- just 2 minutes on these. Many similar corrections from the BO8. Eeep.

FO8s

My lesson with Danette on the Chandler adult skate. Nice ice!  I scribed circles and warmed up with forward edges.

Today's lesson:

  • B edges -- just a quick runthrough with these.  They were okay.
  • FO8 -- posture, posture, posture.  The flow is actually improving.

B8s

My figures lesson with Danette on the Chandler adult skate -- beyootiful ice and just 6 skaters. I scribed circles and warmed up with edges -- they were mostly okay.

Today's lesson:

  • BO8 -- again working on posture.  These were actually improved, especially the LBO.  Working to consistently get that free foot in front on the first half of the circle, especially on the R side.  Eeep.
  • BI8 -- still a work in progress.  Circles are too small, but the push is better.  I'm really having issues trying to stand up straight and get off my toes.  Ugh.
Danette suggested for practice it might be good to just work on skating B edges around a circle, pushing as necessary, just to get my posture and weight on the blade to be better.

F8s, Again

My lesson with Danette on the Chandler adult skate.  Nice ice and 6 skaters.  I scribed circles and warmed up with edges.  They were a little rough from being off ice last week.

Today's lesson:

  • FI8 -- I tend to break at the waist on the push.   As usual, we spent a lot of time working on posture.  At one point we stepped off the ice and Danette had me working on bending my skating knee (hand on wall) while being sure to keep standing straight.  Of course it's easier on the wall... we went back and did more lobes with Danette holding my hand to keep the arm up.  Eeep.
  • FO8 -- just a few minutes on these.  They are still rough.
