BI8s

My lesson with Danette on the 1:15 FS at Chandler.  Nice ice and just 3 skaters. I scribed circles but didn't get my edges done before it was time to start.

Today's lesson:

  • edges -- generally okay.  We spent a little extra time on FO edges.  My LBO lobes are waaaay too big.
  • BI8 -- pretty much our whole lesson.  We made some good progress on getting a better initial push -- yay! -- and flow was much improved.  I still have some work to do on posture and looking where I'm going.

Moves

My lesson with Holly on the 9:15 FS at Gilbert.  Private ice!  It was freshly zammed but still a bit bumpy. I had a brief warmup of stroking.

Today's lesson:

  • circle-8 -- Wow!  I actually made it around!  Not sure if it was the clean ice or what but was very pleased.
  • perimeter XOs -- working to integrate the feedback I had to be on a more definitive BI edge on the back side of these.  Generally okay.
  • BXOs to BO edges -- again, trying to have a better edge on the BO so it's obvious it's not flat.  I feel like I was kind of slow though.  Ugh.  I need to watch the upper body position.

Edges, FO8

My figures lesson with Danette on the Chandler 1:15 FS.  Nice ice, 4 skaters.  I just had time to scribe circles before my lesson.

Today's lesson:

  • edges -- a bit rough.  We did the FO edges a couple times to get some better control.  FI were okay.  BO... we did a bunch of times, working on holding the skating shoulder back (esp. on L side) and generally having better control.  BI edges were... okay.
  • FO8 -- bleah.  Same issues as before.  I really need to find a way to get more ice time.
I'm going to see about getting my blades sharpened as I'm overdue.  Eep.

Edges, BO8, FO3

My figures lesson with Danette on the Chandler 1:15 FS.  Nice ice and just 4 skaters. I warmed up with forward edges and scribed circles.

Today's lesson:

  • B edges -- not bad.  Still working on posture and also to keep the free foot close (like figures) and not in 'landing position (like MIF).
  • BO8 -- not too bad.  Still working on posture etc. and working to have a better initial edge.
  • FO3 -- just a little work on these.  Not good (worse than in my FS skates).
In other news I was told last week that there will be figures at this year's Sherwood Invitational, so I really do need to get my act together.  Danette wants me to work on my flexiblity and core strength.... when? Ugh.

FO3s & Spins

My lesson with Holly on the Gilbert adult skate (postponed from Wednesday).  Not too crowded when I started, but about 18 skaters by the end!  Good ice except the outer ring by the boards was bumpy.  It was REALLY COLD in the rink today!

I warmed up with stroking.

Today's lesson:

  • FO3s -- bleah. We worked more on the RFO3 this time.  I think it's actually progressing, but geez I am tired of working on these.
  • spins -- just a couple of minutes on these.  No good ones :-(
Shoutout to Melissa for gifting me with some new gloves!!
