Edges, BO8

My lesson with Danette on the 1:15 FS at Chandler -- schedule change due to hockey.  Ugh!  This was not a good session for figures -- 14 skaters on the ice.  I warmed up as best I could with edges -- didn't bother to scribe circles.

Today's lesson:

  • edges -- mostly okay. More work on posture, especially on the FO.
  • BO8 -- not quite getting around.  We worked on being more controlled with the free foot etc.
Looking forward to being back in our normal time next week!

Perseverance

I skated the adult skate at Chandler today for freestyle practice.  It's been a while since I skated without having a lesson.  It was nice to see my adult skating homies again!  Great ice and just 6 skaters.

I spent my time working on Bronze moves, with some special attention to power-3s.  Meh.

3s

My figures lesson with Danette on the 8:30 a.m. FS at Chandler.  We didn't start 'til 9 so I had about a 10 minute warmup, just enough to scribe circles and do forward edges.  Ice was okay, about 6 skaters.

Today's lesson:

  • B edges -- actually not bad.
  • 3s -- most of our time on these, on the waltz-8 circle and on the boards.  Working to get better timing of down-up-down.  Ugh.  For the last part we worked on them on the circle and I tried to have the same rhythm as when I worked on these with Holly, but with not a lot of success.  Such a basic thing, but I am still after all this time so lacking in control.  Yuck.

3s, Spins, Jumps.

My lesson with Holly on the adult FS at CCIC.  Really nice ice and just 2 skaters!

Today's lesson:

  • power-3s -- eep.  We ran the whole pattern a couple of times or so.  I didn't die.  The L are almost acceptable (though the 3 is still too early in the lobe).  The R.... we actually spent a lot of time on the BXO and step forward because unlike the L side I can't seem to get that shoulder pulled back before the step forward.  Ugh.  Some progress.
  • spins -- just a few minutes.  Actually not that bad considering how long it's been.  I did manage to do a good one in the end, but it took a while to get me over my skating side.
  • jumps -- just a few at the end.  A couple of waltz jumps (not bad), a few salchows (took a while to get the timing back, but still landing them on two feet today), and then a couple of toe loops.  Hadn't done toe loop in a long time and it showed.  They were all cheated, but at least they happened.

Same Ol' Same Ol'

My figures lesson with Danette on the 9 a.m. FS at Chandler.  8 skaters.  There was an ice cut right before this session (a bit later than my normal time due to a synchro practice) so great ice.  I warmed up with forward edges and scribed circles.

Today's lesson:

  • Edges -- we did FO edges again and B edges.  Not as bad as I expected considering how long it's been since I skated patch, but still a bit rough.
  • FO8 -- not making it around the circle, quite.  We worked a bit on the push, and of course on posture as I really need to figure out how to keep my hips forward and settle back on the blade. Eeep.
  • FI8 -- as usual, better than FO8 but still a bit rough.  It did improve with practice though.
  • BO8 -- just a couple of minutes on these.  Rough.
All in all pretty rough, as I expected, though it could have been worse.  Really looking forward to being done with school (in May) so I can hopefully get back to skating more.
