Patch Perseverance

I had a chance to skate today on the 12:45 p.m. FS at Chandler, so I grabbed my patch skates and was off to the rink. Great ice, but a bit crowded, 10 skaters.... eep.

I had not skated patch for a couple of weeks so I felt like Bambi, again.  Unfortunately it was so busy with people running programs/dances that it was hard to get much done.  I did run through edges and worked on FO8, FI8, and BO8. My 8s were pretty bad. My LFO in particular is uniformly horrible. Uck.

Moves

I actually got to have a freestyle lesson with Holly! On the Gilbert adult skate. It was pretty crowded (about 14 skaters). I hadn't skated freestyle for 3+ weeks. Eep. I got a long warmup.

Today's lesson:

  • Perimeter XOs -- these were a bit rough. Holly drew the pattern out for me and apparently I have been placing the FXOs to late on the pattern. Urph. I need to look at the test form again.  Still working for more power and less two-footed skating on the BXOs.
  • BXOs to BO edges-- eep. I feel like these are really slow. Holly wants me to point my toe more on the held BO edge. I need to lift the free hip more.
  • 3s -- just a few minutes on these. The LFO3 is meh, the RFO3 is hardly there. Yuck.

8s

My figures lesson with Danette on the Chandler adult FS.  Nice ice! About 8 skaters, including Michelle working on pairs-y stuff with Grant.

I had a half hour to warm up,which was much needed since I hadn't skated patch for over a month. Eeep. I did edges and FO8, FI8. I forgot my scribe, oops.

Today's lesson:

  • BI8 push -- I wanted to spend some time fixing my BI push so that I'm not initially on a BO edge. We actually made some progress on this. Yay!
  • FO8 -- mmph.  My LFO was pretty bad, until the last one.
  • FI8 -- better, as usual. I still had some issues on the RFI.
All in all I have a lot of work to do if I want to be ready for the Sherwood figures competition. Eeep.
