Jumps

My lesson with Holly on the CCIC 6:50 a.m. freestyle.  Ice was okay, about 10 skaters?  I warmed up with stroking.

Today's lesson:

  • perimeter XOs -- these were a bit better than last week.  Pattern was good and while I'd like more speed, really they were okay.
  • waltz jump -- just a few of these to get a nice clean takeoff.
  • salchow -- eep.  It's been a while. We spent some time trying to get me to hold the LBI edge a bit longer and then jump at the right time.  Needs work, but for the first time in like 8 months I'll totally take it.
  • toe loop -- eeep, again.   I tend to rush the jump after the turn, so Holly held my hand to get me to slow down.  It did help some but they are still quite rushed, cheated, and two-footed landings.

B Edges, FO8

My figures lesson with Danette on the Chandler adult skate.   Nice, ice about 11 skaters so a bit busy.

I was running late, so just a quick warmup with forward edges.

Today's lesson:

  • B edges -- eep.  These were not the best, and it didn't help that I had two near-collisions with Abby as she was running her program and we wound up in the exact same space twice like 5 minutes apart.  Geez!  All was well but uck.  Anyway the BO edges were just so so.  BI were better but I did have a dumb fall, I pushed really hard on the first one and basically pushed my legs out from under me.  Lol!
  • FO8 -- just a few minutes on these.  Still struggling to just stand up straight and not get my weight forward on the blade.  Urgh!

Moves & Spins

My lesson with Holly on the 6:50 a.m. FS at CCIC.  About 12 skaters, ice a bit bumpy on the ends.  I warmed up with stroking.  I'm still getting used to my freestyle blades!

Today's lesson:

  • perimeter XOs -- the forward pattern was pretty nice, actually.  Speed was improved and I was filling out the space better.  Holly said the BXO side was a bit scratchy so we worked on them a bit. to get me to sit back on the blade a bit.  Some improvement, so we moved on.
  • circle-8 -- we worked these in the middle and then on the end (middle had some snow and was torn up from the production ensemble).    The FOs were lacking, and I couldn't get around.  FI was better.  We worked on getting me to lean into the circle more, and push harder.  There was some improvement but a long way to go.
  • spins -- just a few times on this.  I did 3 or 4 (or 5?) but they were not great.  It was the end of the session & the Zam was coming  :-) so I was a bit concerned lol.
It's good to be back on the ice in freestyle blades.

Edges, FO8

My lesson with Danette on the Chandler adult skate.  Nice ice.  I was running late from a work meeting so I didn't have a warmup.

Today's lesson:

  • Edges -- Still having issues with posture, though it's getting better.  My lobe sizes are still not consistent on BO and BI edges.  FO okay except posture is iffy.  FI was pretty good.
  • FO8 -- Still not getting around the circle, and I still am getting too far forward on the blade.  Pretty frustrated with these right now.

Workin' It

My freestyle lesson with Holly at CCIC on the 6:50 a.m. session.  I got there about 7:05 and warmed up for my 7:20 lessons.  I'm still a bit wobbly on the ice but it's getting better.  Session was relatively crowded, about 12-13 people.  Good for the club!

Today's lesson:

  • BXOs -- Holly wanted me to do these around the end circles, like on the APB MITF (er, "Skating Skills") test.  They were actually not bad, though a bit scratchy.  They did improve tho!  It was nice to actually generate some power.
  • 5-step mohawk -- eeep.  Actually, all things considered these were not that bad.  The mohawks are pretty jumped and the BO edge is scratchy, but I got through them okay. We did a couple of runthroughs and called it good.
  • waltz jump -- my first one in months! It was actually not bad at all, a nice straight take off. Yay!
We'll be in this time slot through mid-July, after that we'll have to figure something out.  Eeep.
