B Edges, Waltz-8

My figures lesson with Danette on the Chandler adult skate.  Nice ice, 8 skaters.  I scribed circles and warmed up with forward edges.

Today's lesson:

  • B edges -- we ran through the BO edges several times, working to get the free foot in front more quickly and keep that skating shoulder back in the first part of the lobe.  For BI we also ran them several times to get the LBI free foot to come in nicely like it did on the RBI.  These looked much better when we were done.
  • waltz-8 -- we'd not looked at these in a while.  We first did some 3s on the boards, then out to my scribed circles.  Danette held my hand through these, they were pretty rough.  The 3s were fairly ucky, although the step forward on the R side was okay -- L side not so much.  Then Danette got a hockey stick to hold while we went through it.  This really does help to feel where my hands/upper body are.  Eeep.

B Edges, FO8 & FI8

My figures lesson with Danette on the Chandler adult skate.  Okay ice (some bumps) and just 7 skaters.  I warmed up with forward edges and scribed circles.

Today's lesson:

  • B edges -- BO were okay, although I once again pushed my feet out from under me and did the slo-mo fall forward.  BI were more or less okay, posture was a bit better.
  • FO8 -- posture was better, but still not making it around the circle.  Gaah.
  • FI8 -- alllmost making it around the circle.  I just need to stand a bit straighter and sit back on the edge more... oh, and it wouldn't hurt to push a bit harder, lol.

Edges & BI8

My figures lesson with Danette on the Chandler adult skate.  Nice ice, 6 skaters.  I was running late so all I had time to do was scribe circles.

Today's lesson:

  • edges - F edges were okay, we did some repetitions on BO and BI to get better posture and to work on that initial push.  I managed to push my feet out from in front of me on a BI push, so that slo-mo forward fall thing. Lol!
  • BI8 -- since we were working on BI.  These did improve, actually, but I'm still not making it around the circle, and trying to scooter-push going backward in my patch blades is difficult -- need to work on that.

Edges

My figures lesson with Danette on the Chandler adult skate.  Ice was okay.  I was a little late, so I scribed circles and that was about it.

Today's lesson was all edges.  We ran through them down the line multiple times, trying to fix some posture issues and get a better push on the B edges.  After that we worked on an exercise that looks like this -- lobe, lobe, circle, repeat the other way.  For example RFO, LFO, RFO circle, then LFO, RFO, LFO circle.  Eeep. Still having issues getting around the full circle.

Public Skate

I skated the public skate at Scottsdale with my friend Emily.  I was originally going to help teach her little sister to skate, but she decided not to come this time (I've worked with her a couple of times before).

This is my 2nd public skate of the year but I'm still not used to them.  Scottsdale has a no jumping/no spinning policy on public, so I pretty much went around in circles the whole time.  It's tiring!  And of course trying to avoid little kids falling in front of you and hockey boys weaving in and out like bats out of Hell.... eep.  Still, it was good exercise.
