FO8

My figures lesson with Danette on the Chandler adult skate in our new timeslot.  Nice ice, 5 skaters.  I warmed up with forward edges.

Today's lesson:

  • B edges -- meh.  I'm trying to fix my widestep, and it was a bit better, but still too much.  I was having a hard time controlling my upper body today -- could not keep that leading shoulder back to save my life.  Yuck.  BI were a little rough, too -- that's unusual.  On the RBI I was taking too long to bring my free leg over the print, and on the LBI I was waaaay up on my toe.  Eeep.
  • FO8 -- These were sort of better.  My flow was better, I was generally getting about 3/4 of the way around, but I'm still hunched forward and I have trouble keeping my free shoulder back and leaning into the circle.  Ugh.

Club Skate

We had a sendoff for CSSC's National Showcase competitors at CCIC, and the two ensembles performed their programs.  After that we had some time for open skate.  I was a bit wobbly on my freestyle blades.  It was good to get on them again, though.

BI8 & 3s

My figures lesson with Danette on the Chandler adult skate.  Nice ice, and just 3 skaters!  The schedule is changing so this is my last Friday lesson for a while.

I warmed up with forward edges and BO edges.

Today's lesson:

  • BI -- we started with BI edges and then went on to BI8.  I'm beginning to see that my issues with this are a) weak push and b) upper body position.  I tend to get forward on my blade so that my upper body is hunched forward and my tush is pushed back.  Ugh.  Not a stable position.  Danette worked with me on getting me to stand up STRAIGHT.  This is just really hard for me, I don't know why.
  • 3s -- we spent the last part of my lesson on 3s.  I actually did a better job of holding the FO edge longer, but on the RFO I just couldn't make myself initiate the turn, I felt 'stuck'.  Ugh.  The LFO was not horrible.

F8s, BO8

My figures lesson with Danette on the Chandler adult skate. Nice ice, about 9 skaters.  I warmed up with edges and scribed circles.  Despite being off the ice for a bit things were more or less okay.

Today's lesson:

  • FO8 -- the first one was not so great as I didn't hold my shoulder back.  In general I'm still trying to fix posture on these. Bleah.
  • FI8 -- not too bad, actually.  Still not getting around the circle though.
  • BO8 -- pushes were pretty good, but still working to keep the free foot close & not turn out of the circle when I move my arms.  Eeep.

3s

My lesson with Holly on the 6:50 a.m. FS at CCIC.  Good ice, 5 skaters.  I warmed up with stroking.  Felt a bit tentative as I've not skated in a bit and also very tired.

Today's lesson was just 3 turns.   Lots of 3 turns.  These are pretty much the same as in my patch skates (don't know if that's good or bad).    They did improve a bit but still not much control.  ugh.
